All Roads Lead to Murray

On  Saturday, April 18th I completed my 5th half marathon in Murray, KY and 4th state within my #50by50 campaign. I decided to rep my University of Memphis hat in the great state of Kentucky. Only Memphis Tiger fans would understand lol. I loved the t-shirt I decided to wear on the race because it had a multiple meanings for me in terms of me being in control of the happiness in my life and the significance my running journey.

The ladies of Black Girls Run Memphis met up at Tom’s Grille for a meet and greet the night before the race for fun, food and fellowship. We had a great time talking about upcoming races and sharing our running journeys with each other.

Once we got to Murray, we could tell it was a college town because of Murray State University being centrally located, its multiple references and insignias, and the locals there.

I had the opportunity to run the entire race with my sorority sister Tari who kept me entertained with her newfound energy wanting to sing after having tried some Clif shot gel by mile 6 of our boring and hilly route. Let’s just say she needs to give up singing and keep her day job taking selfies. I’m guaranteed at least 1 to 2 selfies a day on my Facebook timeline from her lol.

There was an 80% chance of rain forecasted for that morning, but Lord saw fit to let it shine instead upon us. I was grateful for the sun after miserably running in the rain back during the Little Rock Half Marathon. That was not a pleasant experience. I didn’t PR this time, but I didn’t do worse than my longest time either. I was just happy to run it with a friend because most of my races I tend to run alone.

This trip was one of  the best road trips to date because I met some BGR Memphis sole sisters whom I’ve never met in person, but only talked with on Facebook due to us running different routes throughout the city. Plus, I got to hang out with my regular running crew too who always make this running life fun.
